Uriel Marin (born 1981) is based between Norman, Oklahoma and Oaxaca City, Mexico. A center of street art in Latin America, the walls of Oaxaca City have inspired his engagement with public art rooted in a rich tradition of Mexican muralists, graffiti artists, and printmakers.

A painter and printmaker, Uriel’s work develops from three interrelated thematic strands: observation of the natural world, a scavenger’s eye for beauty, and a mythologically founded symbolism. Some of his influences include the Japanese ukiyo-e stamp tradition, Indigenous Mesoamerican flora and fauna, and elements of contemporary popular culture.

Uriel’s work is based in a practice of close observation and engages natural imagery to extol hidden harmonies. He works from a variety of abstract designs to create a visual effect of dynamism, directing his work towards a process of abstraction and synthesis. The fluid quality of water in its constantly changing form – alongside other elements from the natural world – often appears as protagonist.

As an MFA student and instructor at the University of Oklahoma as well as the director of Gallo-dragon studio in Oaxaca City, he cultivates an attitude of constant exploration, insisting on a continual willingness to renew and experiment.
